throwing teeth

Last night I had one of the strangest dreams I've had in a while. I load in to Buddies for Suicide Site today, and I think that was occupying my brain, not letting me relax that much even in sleep; that may have had something to do with it. What I remember is, I was back in Edinburgh for the festival, but it was a really cold August and it seemed like practically nobody was in attendance. The streets were pretty bare. Every so often I'd see a small group of people walking around, but they were few and far between. I was there with a director who I don't know very well, but we both had a reason to be there, it made sense she was there with me.
One night we were walking back to our flat and I heard footsteps behind me. I looked back and saw two little old ladies walking behind us, a ways back. I turned back around and kept talking but then I heard the footsteps quicken. So I looked back over my shoulder again in time to see one of the old ladies reach up, hook her thumb against the roof of her mouth, and throw the top of her head back. As if it was hinged, with the line of mouth, but right at the back of her skull. It flipped open like the lid of a box, and at the same moment her skin snapped to a light steely gray colour. The other woman did the same thing - flipped her head back, turned gray. The two of them reached into their mouths, pulled out a handfull of teeth - which seemed to just grow back instantaneously - and threw them at us. I yelled, we managed to duck them, and started running away. I remember the clatter of the teeth on the stone wall beside us, really vividly.
As we were running, trying to make our way back to the flat, the old ladies trying to keep up as best they could and still throwing teeth at us, I saw another person being chased, this time by a man and his son, both gray-skinned, both throwing teeth. They guy got hit, teeth digging into the back of his head and neck - his skin turned suddenly gray as well, and he just fell over, as if he was turned to stone, but that wasn't it.
At one point Weyni and I were holding garbage can lids and using them to block the teeth being thrown at us. We made our way up to the top of a building, that seemed pretty safe, and watched the flipheads stalking and throwing teeth at other people. And still I was worried about getting to the theatre to do the show - I guess that's a part of my brain that never shuts off.
I've seen enough zombie movies, plague movies, whatever, over the past little while I know what my brain was pulling from for part of this scenario. I'd had a long phone conversation with Weyni a couple nights ago where Edinburgh came up, so that part makes sense as well. But I have NO idea where the hinged-head, throwing teeth thing came from. But it was fascinating and terrifying all at the same time.
