I had lots of fun working for that teacher, and the students, I remember my focus was mainly on a kid that was autistic, his name was Eric. Also this teacher, Ms. Smith introduced me into Christianity, and i never realized it until my freshmen year, when i came across a dc talk cd that she gave me for my Birthday.
here is the story:
My students have autism. They are concrete thinkers, and do not use sarcasm or
understand abstract concepts such as "why". Therefore, I need to speak as clearly
and succinctly as possible. One day, I noticed that one of my students, Eric, was
sitting next to the classroom aide. Pointing at the aide, I turned to eric and
said, "Chris is you friend. You can count on him. He will always help you when you
need it." Eric looked from Chris to me several times as I spoke. I wondered if he
understood me, but then knew Eric had processed my words as best he could when he
turned to Chris and began counting aloud, "One, two, three, four...
