so, i'm back from grinnell (pronounced grin (like the smile) ell (like the letter L))! this is going to be wordy, i apologize in advance.
so thursday morning i left to go visit. and let me just say, i'm pretty much in love! at my other college visits, i pretty much sat around all day. at grinnell...
thursday: i got in around 5, met my host, ate dinner with a table comprised entirely of black, indian, and hispanic lesbians (they made jokes about jews the entire time), saw a documentary film about the rwandan genocide, went to a folk concert, and then went to bed.
friday: woke up early, visited the library (WHICH HAS THESE SWEET STUDY-JUNGLE-GYM THINGS!!!), went to a reception for admitted students, went to a class (literary analysis, they were discussing this amazing book called "dream on monkey mountain"), met amy my grinnellfriend, went on a tour, ate lunch, went to the student organizations fair (i'm going to join the swing-dance club!), went to an art gallery, played racquetball, went to another class (calculus II), met a fellow texan, went to the faculty fair, went to a lecture on the resurgence of anti-semitism in the west, watched a hardcore game of ultimate frisbee, went to dinner, went to a movie in the campus cinema, and then went to sleep.
Grinnell is just awesome. The dorms are nice, they have a dining hall that looks like the one in harry potter, their library is amazing, and the food is actually pretty good! The students I met were really cool, and the teachers were nice. I'm about 98.9 percent sure I'll be going there.
But I realized that no one here even knows where Iowa is. So, to educate you all, I've prepared a little visual aid.
This is Iowa.
Yeah, it's pretty hot. Its main exports are
CORN
BEANS
Its capital is Des Moines, pronounced De Moin. "Yeah, let's put two S's in our capital's name, but not pronounce either!!"
It is also known as the "Hawkeye State".
Their state motto is "Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain".
Hey, at least it's better than "Friendship". Way to go, Texas.
John Wayne was from Iowa.
Iowa has the highest percentage of grade-A topsoil in the nation.
In conclusion, Iowa is pretty lame. Sorry Iowians (Iowites? Iowanians?). But Grinnell is cool, and that's all that matters.
Oh yeah, I'll update about prom later.
