It is where I am not my gender.
I am not a girl walking home at night
hyper-aware, keys placed in vain between knuckles.
It is where I am not my religion.
I am not the Catholic with the closed mind,
bible-thumping and afraid of God.
It is where I am not just gay.
I am not called to a life of celibacy
or expected to protest on both sides.
It is where I am not hurting.
It is where there is no flame nor sword
where welts and rivers, battle scars, are no more.
It is the safe space I've been searching for.
