Easier This Way - Brenda/Sharon.

Clotho was spinning, Lachesis measuring and she could feel the abhorred shears of Atropos cut through the tether of their relationship. It was easier this way.

Easier this way

There was a fate blowing in the breeze, there were signs of possible tragic events. Brenda could feel it in her bones. A storm was brewing, and the two of them were the catalyst. Their forces would collide, spread damage wide, the sky would crash and the rain would fall in bullets.

Sharon had struggled to reconcile her feelings for Brenda with her guilt for what they were doing to Fritz. She tried to console herself with the fact that technically she wasn't cheating, Fritz didn't deserve Brenda, she was the right person for Brenda. All of her excuses she clung to tightly, trying to quiet the nagging in her head. She could justify her actions, back herself with quiver and arrow. But the guilt remained. It was this, she realised, that had caused her to lash out at the younger woman.

They had stayed up all night, trying to sort out their issues. Brenda had sat hunched over in the armchair, nursing the largest glass of Merlot Sharon had ever seen. The older woman laid on the couch, her wine long-forgotten and her glasses perched on the top of her head. It was easier this way - to have this conversation while she could barely make out Brenda's face.

Of course their polite conversation became a fight. She had somewhat unceremoniously called Brenda selfish and needy, who in turn spat back with a claim that the brunette was uptight and unlovable. Neither had a response for the other. Raw nerves were hit, insecurities scratched at and each woman sat silent.

In the silence, each contemplated their youth, pondering the events from her past that had melded her in to the person she was today. With each memory that filtered through her mind, she could see the sculpting of herself, and felt the weariness that came with each blow that chipped away at her.

Brenda had left her that night. After half-hearted apologies and a love-making session that saw the women end their time together in the tightest possible embrace, she had snuck out at the first sign of the brunette's breath evening out.

It was easier this way.

As she came home to her husband she could feel the fates circling around her - Clotho was spinning, Lachesis measuring and she could feel the abhorred shears of Atropos cut through the tether of their relationship. It was easier this way.

Lying in Fritz's arms, staring out the window, she saw the dying wind, the calming of the storm and the downpour turning to a drizzle. But inside her mind, her sky was crashing, the force of Sharon colliding with her will and spreading the damage wide.

She would spend the rest of her life convincing herself it was easier this way.
