But dudes, there was new Southland last night! And it was SO GOOD. John Cooper is still in my top five favorite characters of all time.
I kind of like the partners being mixed up, and I like that John and Ben are clearly not okay. But I have faith that they will be eventually, and I'm glad we'll maybe get to see that process. Meanwhile, I like Ben with Sammy, he needs to have some fun while still being Most Intense Baby Cop Ever. And this wasn't clear at all, even though I've watched twice, but I think Ben actually shot the shooter, right? After Ferguson distracted him? That was very unclear. But I like how they showed the cops so shaken up after the shoot-out.
(as an aside, between the squad-room shoot-out and the use of Sinnerman is Sherlock this week, I'm REALLY itchy to rewatch some Homicide.)
And oh, let's talk about Cooper. And Cooper and Tang.
First of all, the working out! It actually made ME feel relief to see John not in pain, after last season. Wow. And I love the scene with the car and how it was a direct throw-back to John's downward spiral last season. Plus he had swagger! Oh John Cooper, so many hearts.
I've never been a big fan of Lucy Liu, but I really like her so far, and I like John's reactions to her. I love that for all of his attitude and gruffness and kind of old school policing, he respects female cops. I like how they were feeling each other out and trying to figure out how much of the baggage they were each coming in with was going to effect their relationship. And oh god, the reveal at the end, with the video? Holy shit.
Lydia was as awesome as ever. I think I'm going to miss both Josie and Chickie, though.
