Silver Falls

Last week I discovered the Outdoor Program at my school! Cheap outdoor adventures with fellow students! I saw a flyer for a day hike and got hella psyched. It reminded me of how I met Pete. And I would very much like to make friends at my new school, so I signed up for it right away. It is tomorrow! Here is what they say about it:

May 5 Silver Falls Day Hike
Student: $20, Faculty/Staff: $24
Pre-Trip Meeting: Wednesday, May2nd at 7:00pm in Smith 47a.
Registration Deadline: Wednesday May 2nd @ 12noon.
This hike is open to anyone who wants to get out of the city on a beautiful Spring day! A non-challenging day hike for the physically fit, Silver Falls is a green, shaded wonder for the eyes. Large old growth trees covered in chartreuse moss surround you, and breathtaking views of waterfalls and turquoise waters tease your gaze often.

And the "Trip Expectations" paper I got at the pre-trip meeting says:

We will hike 8 miles on the "Trail of the 10 Falls," descending to a forest floor in the Cascade Mountains covered with ferns, mosses, and wildflowers. The trail takes you to 10 majestic waterfalls, ranging from the grand South Falls (177 feet) to the delicate Drake Falls (27 feet). Elevation gain/loss: 500 feet.

So I am pretty excited. I am always up for a trip outside of the city. I love and miss the natural outdoors that I took for granted in Michigan, so forests and waterfalls will be splendid. Not to mention the hike! These things say 8 miles but the guide told us it's 7. Either way, a decent walk for sure. Not on pavement, either! Hooray!

I'm getting ready right now. Waiting for the Brita to filter more water to fill my Nalgene, charging my camera. I've already packed snacks, raincoat, hat, a book... dug around in the shoe box trying to find my hiking boots but couldn't, so my old gym Nikes will have to do. Just have to choose an outfit and I will be just about ready. This thing is all day, meeting at 8:30am for the hour van ride to the park and getting back around 7pm, so I've got to get my sleep. Especially if I want to see the classical guitar concert at school afterwards, and go to Kalera's Cinco de Mayo bonfire party after that. Which I do! But I'll need to be awake.

Adventures ahead! It's a great feeling.
