Five Hundred Twenty Five Thousand Six Hundred Minutes

Jun 05, 2016 01:16

This afternoon, my family and I took our 14 3/4 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Jefferson (Jeffie) to his final vet appointment, to be euthanized. He was the most amazing dog, when he was five, he saved my life, he loved all of the family passionately, and he was a true blue pal to our other pets.

I took this picture yesterday, of Jeffie, being loved on by my four year old dachshund, Trixie. She was really sweet and loving this week, as Jeffie was loosening his ties to earth.

Nine months ago today, my Father died, at 79, after a long illness. Ten weeks later, my almost six year old dachshund, Mario, jimmied open a closed front door, while I was in the bathroom, and was struck by a car. Now, Jeffie is gone. Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes, the span of a year, aren't even up yet, and yet the losses, well, they are too much.

Oh, yes, the picture, it is here. Good bye, sweet Jefferson, I'll see you on the other side. Daddy, I look forward to hugging you when my time comes. Mario, you and Mister Biggles have yourselves a big ol' romp with Jeffie - you all are good, good dogs. I miss you all.
