I won NaNoWriMo! YAY! :D
Unlike my Camp project, this novel has been tougher for me to write, mostly because its events are spread over a number of years. It's easier to pace a novel when you don't have as much time between things. That and my Camp novel was part of a series that I've been planning for yonks. So, basically, I don't have an excerpt that I can be happy with yet. My book needs a make-over, especially when it comes to the first few chapters, which I wrote in first-person before I realised I'm lousy at that particular POV and switched back to third. I hope I do better when I try it in my fanfictions.
To tide you guys over, here's the synopsis of the book. When I have an excerpt I'll be happy showing you, I'll post a link to it.
The Twelfth Corona:
A retelling of The Wild Swans.
After the death of their mother, Prince Maximillian and his siblings are each given one of the twelve remarkable crowns entrusted to their aunts, who once danced in an otherworldly castle every night for nearly three years. The crowns, known collectively as the Twelve Coronas, are powerfully magical and bond themselves with their owners, unable to be removed from them against their will.
The gift proves fortuitous for Maxim and his siblings, for when their father remarries, his wife proves to be far more than she first appears. Within months of becoming queen, Darvira has sent the nine-year-old princess Eliza away from the father who once doted on her and the brothers she loves more than life itself. Before the princes can do anything to get their sister back, their stepmother reveals her true nature, and uses the formidable powers at her disposal to transform Maxim and his brothers into swans. Forced into exile and forgotten utterly by their spellbound father, the twelve siblings must rely on their wits and the strange magic of the Coronas they wear.
In other news, I now have 100 reviews for WSoD! My first milestone! I'm very happy right now.
Back to business as usual in December, except that I'm not going to let my writing slide off the radar. I intend upon writing regularly from this point onward, and utilising the wonderful advice of Rachel Aaron (I've linked the blog post to my journal twice already. I'm not doing it again).
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! :D
