Lies

Back in December, I discovered that Faith had been hiding her DS in her bed, which is strictly against the rules. I took the DS away and put it in my dresser, in the skinny drawer that houses some of my jewelry. At least, I thought I did. When I went to look for it, to give it back to her at Christmas so she could play her new game, it wasn't there. To be honest, I wasn't sure I'd put it there. I suspected I might have put it somewhere else, and began scouring the house for it. It didn't turn up.

So, today, I made an appointment to see my oral surgeon because I'm having problems with the part of my mouth where the tooth was extracted (may have a dry socket - fun). I told the kids we would go at 1:00 and that they could take their game consoles (Aine has a Leapster). I told Faith I'd look one more time for hers.

That's when Faith said, "Mom, you should look one more time where you last saw it." Intrigued, I looked in the drawer where it should have been, and LO! there it was! I carried it to the top of the stairs and looked down at Faith in the living room and said, "Wow, amazing, it was right where I remember leaving it. How do you suppose it go there?" Wide eyed, Faith said, "I have no idea, Mom. Really! I don't know how it got there!" I gave her the hairy eyeball and said, "Faith..." and she replied, "Come on, Mom! I don't go snooping around in drawers." to which I replied, "How did you know it was in a drawer."

The look of dawning realization of her mistake was priceless.

I then told her I'd have to think about what her punishment would be. I'm really more concerned about the facility with which she lies than I am about her sneaking the DS.
