In a well-constructed short essay (three paragraphs), discuss one disadvantage in online communication. Write a short essay, addressing how you can overcome this disadvantage. Write three paragraphs: an introduction, body and conclusion. You will be submitting this assignment online.
Introduction: Although online communication has many advantages in today’s world there are disadvantages. One disadvantage that comes to mind is grammar. The misuse and abuse of grammar has led to the decline of English and the rise of abbrev and “LOL”. In other words, we have the rise of abbreviations and acronyms.
Body: My generation “Y” as it’s sometimes referred to as, is a fully online generation. This generation has grown up with today’s computers with the likes of, Windows 98 (and above), Pentium III, Internet, and so on, so it almost seems like writing “LOL” “ROFLMAO” “BRB” “sup” “n e wayz” “r u thur” is proper English. But its not, and it makes this “gen Y’r “ sick, to an extent. I do use internet short hand myself, to a limited extent, but I also encourage the use of proper English(well, the use of English we see today, not internet short hand) to many of my fellow gen Y’rs. Nothing is more frustrating when you’re trying to have a conversations on AIM and you see “Sup, how r u 2day?”
Conclusion: Internet short hand is how I refer to it, is pretty much here to stay. Get over it, but I do suggest that the use to proper English should be taught and enforced outside of the Internet world. I mean, who really wants to hear Walter Cronkite on nightly news say something like “Yo wad up my nizzles, 2nites newz is bout g.dubba and dem ‘rakies” I sure don’t.
