Geekdom in its various permutations

I will freely admit to anyone that I am a geek. It's fairly obvious if you know me even slightly, and I'm justly proud of that fact. And yet.... It's such a stereotypical term for something that spans a wide spectrum of interests ( Read more... )

Clearly, anyone who earns a degree in a "geek" subject has earned the title. So music is one of mine.

I'm also enough of a WoW addict to have earned myself not one, but TWO level-80 (max-level) toons. (One is a protection-specced paladin [tank - designed for holding enemies' attention] and one a holy priest [healer] - had to cover the essentials!) My damage dealers are not far behind, with four level-70s (mage, warlock, rogue, and shaman) moving through the ranks. And a level 60 Death Knight - the new class. (To further illustrate my problem, it took me a fair amount of thinking to word this in a way that would be understandable in non-gamer terms. WoW has a lingo all its own.)

I'm saving up for another computer, because the four in my apartment aren't good enough. Clearly the XBox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, PS2, N64, SNES, and Sega Genesis don't keep me entertained enough.

I'm also in love with my touch-screen phone (LG Dare! Woo!) and DVR through DirecTV, I make use of On-Demand as well as streaming Netflix through our 360. I've strongly considered picking up another monthly charge to get one of those 3G receivers that hooks up through USB to your laptop to pick up internet signals through cell phone carriers, so I can get online on my overnights. For now, having the internet on my phone will do.

I think "tech geek" belongs in your categories.
