My god! I never realized how wasteful people were until I moved to Chicago. It has been totally to Brenda and I's advantage, however. We live in a small apartment building that has a nice long alley behind it, and ever since moving here we have perfected our mad dumpster diving skills like no other. Our alley's dumpsters are like a goldmine of finds. We've basically furnished our whole apartment from our alley. The pickings have been dry for the last month or so, but just tonight there was a treasure trove of stuff right by our building. Our collection tonight included a DVD/VHS player, a stereo with a phonograph and dual cassette, some wooden bar chairs for the patio, a box full of crafts supplies, and some random, odd items that are sure to come in handy somehow.
Findings from previous dives include a 19th-century dark green velvet couch the size of a pew (total David Lynch look to it), a tv stand, several art fixtures, a desk, bureau, bookshelf, a stockload of awesome early 20th-century LPs, a bookcase full of interesting books, a plethora of kitchen cookware, plates, and some utilities, a book of stamps, more crafting supplies than you can shake a stick at, several cameras, some awesome clothes and some to die-for luggage, the list could go on seriously for way too long about what we've found, it's insane.
And to highlight just HOWWWW insane and wasteful these people are (bless their little wasteful souls), one time I found about $60 worth of sterling pounds in a trashbag which I promptly took to the downtown American Express to exchange for US currency. WTF?!?!?!!!
Andddd, I should be writing an ethics essay that's due tomorrow (today). So, must stop babbling and get'er done. Summer school is OVER this week... then Florida the week after. Then school again on the 29th. Oh, and my birthday's coming up too (24th), I'll be 23... my god how time flies. But odd years always seem to be awesome for me, so I have high expectations for 23.
Off to delve into the lovable worlds of Locke and Kant.
