Brown Sugar Cafe

I've had a lot of good food lately, mostly at small cosy places where I will endeavour to get my friends to revisit with me.

A plug and notes for myself for last night's place: Brown Sugar Cafe

- Starter #1: Pan seared sea scallops with asparagus and veal jus
[scallops yum]
- Starter #2: Deconstructed apple, walnut, brie and arugula salad with apple balsamic
[ALL good. Great start to meal.]
- Main #1&2: Duck confit with apple and walnut risotto
[A bit less duck than I would have liked, but tasty.]
- Main #3: Wagyu burger with foie gras and fries
[Minced patties don't rock my world, even minced wagyu. Foie gras was great though. Fries too.]
- Main #4: Lamb rack with broccoli and sugar snaps
[CS thought it was a bit tougher than he would have liked. Not my favourite, but I'm not a fan of lamb generally.]
- Dessert #1: Sticky date pudding with vanilla bean ice cream
[Everyone else lapped this up.]
- Dessert #2: Tarte Tartin of Pear with honey and fig ice cream
[While I liked this more. Caramalised puff pastry, honey and fig ice cream, baked pears... I likee.]
- Wine: Penfolds 407 cabernet sauvignon
[Corkage free night!]

Total damage: $200 incl tax for 2 starters, 4 mains, 2 desserts, 1 espresso, 1 iced tea
Enjoyment factors: Casual and light ambience, night out with friends, wine on a weekday night for merrymaking, simple food with good ingredients.
What would have made the night rock more: Not having to go to work the next day, if the noise level had been a tad lower as the sounds bounce off the walls and ceilings, if the portions had been just a smidgen larger for even better value, if the common toilets were nicer.
What I would have on a revisit: Deconstructed apple, walnut, brie, arugula salad again. Grilled squid salad perhaps. Cod on squid ink pasta. Bread and butter pudding. Fries.

(HUNGRY!)
