I think it's perfectly acceptable to not separate the book and its author if the review calls for it. Most of the reviews on novels by Stephen Glass and James Frey centered on the authors' tainted past.

But more importantly: does this mean I should buy Clockwork Angel for "my nephew"?

I haven't started on Clockwork Angel yet, so I can't say for now. Will get back to you when I finish.

Also, why is "my nephew" in quotes? Is he really not your nephew? XD

I think it's fair game, bb. Have at it. Of course, if an author's making money off plagiarising, it's legally actionable, and much, much more of an issue than not-for-profit fanfic.

Clare has always been lucky that the authors she copied from when she was just writing fanfic never took legal action against her.

I really just don't like her as a person, and I guess I'm worried that I might end up making ad hominem arguments when I bring her past as a plagiarist into the review. I guess that's what editors are for. XD

Aw, hell.

I was always a Christopher Pike girl in the Pike v. Stine wars. This makes me sad.

This makes me sad.

Awwww, I'm sorry about that.

I couldn't believe it was the Christopher Pike when I first read it either, seeing as both him and Stine were integral to my reading list when I was growing up. But there it is. :(

Zoiks. I feel for you.

Still not touching her books, though. Hehe. Tough that you were assigned to do it. :(

I guess just look at Clockwork Angel/Mortal Instruments as a regular book, to be safe? Trust in HER editors and hope they spotted any "unoriginal" stuff and edited those out? o_0

The problem is I've had people who've read her Draco Trilogy and The Mortal Instruments and they say that the similarities ARE there. It's not a comforting thought.

Wah! Really? Sa writing mismo? Or baka naman sa plot and characterization lang?
