Goodbye, President Cory

Aug 01, 2009 13:15

To be perfectly honest, Cory wasn't the President I grew up with. She came into power when I was three years old and left her office when I was nine. Ramos was the President that I grew up with, was most familiar with, and was the one that was around when my mind first started to grasp politics.

Cory, for me, was more of a mythical figure rather than a President. She was always "the simple housewife" that overthrew the Dictator, and that was always the image that stuck to me. I always thought that when her time would come it would be because of natural causes -- I didn't think she could get sick. That was why it was such a shock for me and the whole country to find out she had cancer.

At least now that she's passed on, we know that the pain she went through has finally ended, and that she is in a much better, more peaceful place. Hopefully, one day our own country can find itself in a better, more peaceful state as well.
