OSOYOOS, B.C. - A blazing squirrel is to blame for a small brush fire that
broke out in Osoyoos on Monday. Firefighters arrived at a fruit packing
operation after a squirrel on a power line caught fire, fell into the brush
below and started the fire. I guess the situation is not as unusual as it
sounds. "This identical incident has happened on the same pole one or two
times a year for the past several years," said Osoyoos fire chief Ross
Driver. Every time, a squirrel is found by the base of the pole, dead and
burnt. Driver doesn't know what the power utility company might do to
prevent future squirrel fires.
