So after all my grumbling about how it was stupid to take a child trick ot treating when he would be too young to remember it, I finally relented and took Teddy trick-or-treating at the Opryland Mall. For two hours all the stores give out candy to any of the little kids that pass by. Some stood right at the doors of the stores for easy access while others had it way back by the counter. I think it was a combination of lack of manpower plus not wanting kids running about the breakable china stores. I was happy to see that many of the salespeople got into the act as well.

Well, Teddy was a huge hit in his little devil costume. A few people even stopped to take his picture. For his part, Teddy loved the attention. He was sitting forward in his stroller, gripping the edge and looking all about him. The favored few got a smile and a coo and they were accepted as the precious gifts they were. I was also pleased that no one looked at me like I was using my child as a cynical excuse to get free candy.

There were quite a few creative costumes out there. Faeries were quite popular this year. Made me wonder if there was a wing sale somewhere. I saw a girl that was angel on the left and devil on the right. A couple Spider-Mans and Batmans were patrolling the area. I saw a cute little girl dressed as a strawberry. One boy was wearing a diamond of orange construction paper that read "Work zone ahead." I went right up to that family and informed them that his was the scariest costume I saw all night. Oh and I saw a kid with an Incredibles costume and was amused until I saw it had a CAPE! I had to physically restrain myself from going Edna Mode on his ass.

The adult costumes were also eye catching. Daddy got his eye candy in the form of quite sexy faeries and witches. Spencer's gifts had two guys in evil Jedi costumes and I took Teddy right over, "Look Teddy! Dark Candy of the Sith!" One of them told a kid, "Nah this isn't scary. You should see what I normally wear." The fellow at the leather goods shop looked like Central Casting had sent in a Wild West Marshall. I half expected to have to gunfight him for some candy. I also apologized to the lady in front of the Bible Outlet for bringing the Devil into her store.

Basically, I reconnected with Halloween and am so looking forward to the many years of trick or treat ahead.
