Another new favorite Cheezburger:
I love it. And now I want to bake. I haven't since I moved into my apartment, and I miss it. The reason I haven't baked there is that I haven't baked there, which is silly, because I won't have baked there until I've baked there. You know? I knew exactly how my oven in Tallahassee would behave. I don't have the first clue what this one will do. I baked a lot in my old house, which meant there was a lot of yeast in the air. It changed the way my recipes worked, and I learned to accommodate for that. And the recipes are mostly not on paper. They're in my head. So I imagine here I'm going to have a whole lot of not-properly-risen bread until I figure it all out. But I want brioche and challah and sourdough and pretzels, and I want the smell of bread baking and of butter melting on fresh-from-the-oven Parker House rolls.
Maybe I'll start with cookies first. It's difficult to ruin a cookie.
In further food news, I made butternut squash and sweet potato soup last night.
murnkay, the blending went very smoothly (ha!), and the soup was fantabulous. I have the leftovers for lunch today, and I will most definitely be making this soup again. I had a ton of squash leftover so I baked it, and that will be dinner tonight. Yay! I think I'll make split pea soup next. And after that, butternut squash with pecans and blue cheese. Because I am all about the soup and the squash right now, and there is never a time that I am not all about the blue cheese.
