Re: Help, I need BG help.lastwordy_mcgeeNovember 3 2006, 20:32:00 UTC
I totally looooooove Gaius and want to lick him repeatedly. And also run my fingers through his fabulous hair. I am not quite entirely hooked, but I am definitely netflixing season one and wish it would please arrive right fucking now. Please.
Anyway -- so Gaius sets up the one human guy and gets him arrested for being a Cylon, right? But then, at the end, when all the Cylon double are in that one room, it looks lke that guy DID turn out to be a Cylon. Or was that just someone who looked like him? Did my precious, fucked up, probably nuts, definitely immoral Gaius get lucky?
Baltar is put to work trying to devise a means of detecting these humanoid Cylons. He luckily exposes Aaron Doral as a Cylon agent (Miniseries), using little more than invented technobabble to convince Colonel Tigh.
Battlestar Wiki is a marvelous thing, but I'd use it sparingly right now because it is incredibly spoileriffic. Not spoileriffic if you're caught up, but spoileriffic if you're just going into the first season.
So, tell me more. What else did you love? What else are you curious about?

I thikn it's cute that you think I saw anything past James Callis' hotness.
;)
I do want to see more of how they explore his psychosis and the relationshipwith Number Six. I don't know everyone's name yet, but WOW the Asian girl is a Cylon!!! Didn't see that coming. Also, how does the relationship between Comm Adama and Apollo move foward? Does Apollo hook up with Starbuck? Do we learn more about the dead brother?
And the president....she's a bit of a soft touch, and that worries me. I hoep she toughens up.
And also, more Gaius. Shirtless would be good. A Naked Gaius story arc would be just perfect.
(though I hear he becomes president and then a druggie??? To fight the hallucinations, I guess/ If they are hallucinations?)

You'll definitely see more of Gaius and Six, and I think you'll enjoy that.
The Cylon you're talking about is Sharon Valerii, whose call sign is Boomer. That surprised the hell out of me, too. I think you'll really enjoy her storyline.
I can't remember how much you learn about Zak, the dead brother, in the miniseries, so I'm not sure how much you have left to learn about him.
Apollo's relationship with his father is one of the things I love about this show. The improvements that come don't feel forced or matters of convenience. It really does feel genuine, and as I imagine you've seen, they are on much better terms later in the series.
Apollo and Starbuck sort of dance around it, and you keep thinking it will happen but it doesn't, and then you think surely this time it will happen but it doesn't, and on and on. Remarkably, this is another area that doesn't seem contrived

I don't think so, no. I think he's self-centered and careless, and I think he does a lot of truly fucked up things, but I don't think any of it is intentional or malicious. I think a lot of it is done out of a sense of self-preservation. I think he also acts as a result of vanity, self-absorption, and very often fear. I've seen moments when I've been sure he's known that he's done something terrible and that it's only just occurred to him that it's something terrible.
Re: Help, I need BG help.lastwordy_mcgeeNovember 3 2006, 21:09:01 UTC
Yeah, that's my (albeit limited) take as well - he doesn't *mean" to be an asshole, but it does always seem to work out that way. And from what little I have seen of the character as things progress (from the "Story So Far" thing on SciFi), he does seem genuinely conflicted as to who is right and who is wrong, especially in terms of spiritual matters. It seems like he can't help but wonder if the Cylons might not have the better plan, over all, and that humanity itelf is flawed.
Re: Help, I need BG help.lastwordy_mcgeeNovember 3 2006, 21:16:28 UTC
But it seems like Six is having some trouble with her "beliefs" as well, somewhere along the lines. Or so it seemed from the Story So Far thing. Like one of her incarnations is having her own second thoughts about who is right and who is wrong.
Both of them walk this weird line-- sometimes they help the humans, sometimes the Cylons. With no particular leaning to one side or the other. Gaius *wants* to be on the humans' side, but he can't quite make it all the way over.
