Allergies That Aren't, and a Happy Life.

My allergies started acting up Friday night, and by Saturday morning I was praying for death. I went out and bought allergy medication, which did absolutely no good at all. I suffered through laundry with the sneezes and a runny nose, and went through about a quarter of a box of tissues while I was there. When I got home, I finally realized that my eyes were not itchy and my hair touching my face was not making me flappy and suicidal. The reason the allergy medication wasn't working was that I wasn't suffering an allergy attack. I had a cold. Ugh. I would so much rather allergies than a cold. I went back out for something for my cold, and remembered that NyQuil is no longer my god of cold medications. I ended up with Tylenol Cold Nighttime with Cool Burst, which is my new god. It is fantabulous. It does all of the things that the glorious Q used to do, before the powers that be decided that I'm more likely to use it in my bathtub meth lab than as a cold remedy and changed the formula to one that does not work. I'm not sure I understand the Cool Burst portion of the delightful Tylenol Cold Nighttime with Cool Burst, because the Cool Burst thing sort of suggests something you bite into that has a liquidy center, but you are warned not to chew, dissolve, break, fold, spindle, or mutilate your Tylenol Cold Nighttime with Cool Burst. So. No idea what the point is, but I'm not really going to question it too much because the stuff works. Beautifully. And the Nighttime part? Ohyes. It is a glorious sleep aid. I found myself falling asleep about two hours after taking it each time.

I continued my bad-for-me food consumption throughout the weekend. I had very little self control, and used feeling bad as an excuse to continue with my poor food choices. I'm not really all that upset about it, though, because with the exception of this past weekend I've done quite well, and I didn't find it difficult to pick up where I left off with the healthier foods and drinks this morning. I went to the gym after work on Friday, but skipped Saturday and Sunday. I'm feeling a lot better today, so I'll go tonight. I won't push myself too hard, but it definitely won't hurt to spend a little time on the elliptical machine, and to my great surprise I find myself looking forward to the weight machines. I haven't the first clue what that's about, but I'm just going to go with it. It's best not to fight the urges when they're actually healthy ones.

I watched loads of television and DVDs this weekend. Battlestar Galactica was, as always, fabulous. I watched Trading Places and really enjoyed that. I'm surprised now that I'd never seen it before. It was a wonderful my-head-is-swimmy-because-of-cold-medication-and-I-can't-put-much-thought-into-my-entertainment movie. And yay for that. I also watched many, many episodes of the second season of Monk. I so love that show. I totally understand his need for symmetry and for food separation. Oh yes.

I had a moment during Monk yesterday when I realized that there was apple juice in the apartment, and it just hit me out of nowhere that I love my life. It's a quiet life, with no big drama or glamour or glitz, but it's exactly the life I want. Even lying on the couch with a fever and a cold, I was content. It is very, very good to be me.

gym, television, siiiiick, good to be me, bsg, happy
