Isn't there a clause where you can post a public notice declaring your intent to divorce in a paper (the Dispatch sounds like a good option) and if he doesn't respond in a certain time, it is presumed that he accepts it? My mother says that works, unless they've changed it.

Yes, but the attorney said that you have to put in in a LEGAL publication... and the cost of ads in those are nearly 100 times as much as the Dispatch. However, if the lawyer misled me, I'm so open to alternatives.

In a legal publication? That doesn't make any sense, since the supposed point of doing it is to inform the person of your intent to divorce; unless he's in the legal profession, the chance of him reading a legal publication are miminal to none. According to the Ohio Revised Code, Chapter 3105.6, Notice by Publication when Residence is Unknown: If the residence of a defendant in an action for divorce, annulment, or legal separation is unknown, or if the defendant is not a resident of this state or is a resident of this state but absent from the state, notice of the pendency of the action shall be given by publication as provided by the Rules of Civil Procedure.
