The boot saga

I am trying to buy new boots. I have been trying to buy new boots for a couple of years now, so it's fortunate that my old boots are still going, but they won't go on forever, and the problem is becoming increasingly urgent ( Read more... )

Is your postcode radically different from ours? Cos I'm in most of the week if that helps... :)

I guess it depends what they mean by "within your postcode" - if they'll allow just the OX bit, I can switch to work, but if it's the first four digits that will include you - thank you! I'll get back to you if that turns out to be a goer.

I have an intuition (but, as saying that implies, absolutely no justification) that "within postcode" would refer to the XY1 bit.

Which gives loads of options.

Good Luck! Shoes are important.

As Chumbawamba might have said - ""Truth is I thought it mattered. I thought that music mattered. But does it? Bollocks! Not compared to how shoes matter."

Oh dear :-(

We've been lucky through having someone almost always in. Consequently chrestomancy will often arrange for parcels to come here rather than to his house.

That all sounds worse than most couriers, though.

If they have lace holes, why do you need zippers?

You should talk to bibliogrrl (as opposed to bibliogirl. It sounds like you have similar boot-finding problems.

I don't need zippers, but it takes a million years to put on or take off a 14-hole pair without zips...

Speed laces are much better than holes. I don't like zippers on shoes or boots. They break far too easily, particularly since they're often on the inside and I'm very good at kicking myself in the ankles, and then are a real horror to replace. I like granny boots (with speed laces, not holes), but it's never easy to find shoes in a US11. At least, not attractive, affordable, good quality shoes. Ugly, crappy things that cost a week's salary I can probably find by the truckload.

For the most part, I wear loafers.

My preferred ones have two zips, so if one starts to go you can switch to the other one. Although the DM zips are generally pretty tough.

(Having said that, I will probably break one tomorrow and the boot thing will become a lot more urgent.)
