It all started when Spain gave her some of his soap operas to watch.
She liked them very much-she liked the shows so much that she became happy when her people named their children after the heroines.
It was her Kuya Antonio who started the trend of 'telenovelas', but it was her next-door neighbor, Taiwan, who really improved on it-who made it a trend.
Taiwan-chan-the pretty brunette who Wang Yao called his 'meimei'-gave Philippines her first look on F4. It was something the Chinese girl based on one of Kiku's books-the ones he called manga. Philippines, being a sucker for romantic comedies, loved the idea of 'chinovelas'.
Honda Kiku-Japan-gave her another F4 (The original one! he insisted.), another new set of dramas. 'J-dramas' didn't get as popular as Kiku hoped they would be, but Philippines was a bit of an anime otaku anyway, so he was okay with it (even if the only animes the younger girl seemed to like were his popular shonen titles).
But the one who actually started (and maintained) the whole 'asianovela' craze in the Philippines was Yong Soo (much to Japan's dismay). He had always given Philippines his new koreanovelas, and it made him happy to see that they always made her smile.
