The FAQs can help you figure out how to do all that.
As far as being social, use the find interest guide and find out if there are any groups that appeal to you. If there are, join them. Introduce yourself. make positive comments.
I have found age to be a good interest. You may find a community ot two on my user info page that interest you as well.
If you do join a group. Click on the group's friend's page, then you will see the public journal entries of the members of the group. These are people who already have something in common with you.
Sometimes the same goes if you are reading the entries on your friends' friends list.
If you find someone who interests you either from their journal entries or their comments in a group, go ahead and friend them. Leave them a note on an entry to let them know that you friended them and why.
If I decide to make a comment in someone's journal and they are not my friend or are a friend of a friend, I like to let them know how I found them. "Hi, I was just looking at friends of friends and I wanted to say..." or something like that.
I don't get into the big grammar and spelling corrections. I don't think this is a place for that. Maybe in a grammar and spelling community, but not everywhere.
Now, if you go to my profile/user info, atsymee is Rachael Salsbury, petsnakereggie is Tim, moneygod is Pat and Bargeral is Karl. Neither Pat nor karl really do anything on their pages.
Have fun, be polite even if the others aren't, and you may like it here.
