That kind of sums up today. It started out fine. We were going to visit a family friend and have lunch, but he kids made her cancel out of COVID concerns. I went to see someone in the knitting group to drop of some shawls I made and pick up yarn to start a new one, as we're in hiatus due to COVID concerns. We then went to the gas station where $20 fills our tank 3/4 full. After that was a simple matter of going to Shaw's to redeem some scratch tickets I got for Christmas (I won $3).
At Shaw's, I had a ten minute wait at the service desk to redeem my scratch tickets. No big whoop. At least theirs was open. Stop & Shop's service desk is ALWAYS closed, hence my going to Shaw's.
So, stupid me, I decide I have a gift card for the store with about $25 left on it, I'll buy a few things for New Years; Some crackers, speadable cheese, French bread pizza. The store was nuts and the register waits was even more insane. The lines were about half way through the aisles beyond the registers, and five registers were open, also the do it yourself section. I waited in line. For FORTY MINUTES. My bad leg was in massive pain from standing and not moving. And as I finally got up to the register, the woman tells me, "The register's closed" and buggers off. I mutter, "Are you fucking shitting me??!!" to no one in particular, and tell the people who have been equally patient behind me that we've all been screwed and have to go into NEW lines and wait ALL OVER AGAIN.
I went to a new aisle and waited another TWENTY MINUTES before getting to the register, but at least everything ran smoothly. I grabbed a soda and Big Cup Reeses peanut butter cups. I get outside, where an old friend of Brother's who works there says, "So you finally got out, huh?" I get in the car and instantly open the peanut butter cups, saying, "Don't even ASK why I'm eating these right now. I'm only eating these as I'm angry as hell. This is stress eating." Ma says I had been in Shaw's for OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF.
Next, we go to Stop & Shop, as Ma wanted to get a few items (she had a gift card for there) and I had to pick up my meds. It wasn't crowded and nuts like Shaw's. There were two registers open and like one person ahead of you in it. We were in and out super fast.
And their customer service desk was still closed.
