"Hello, world"
I'm a bit of a slowpoke, I've just learnt belatedly that Dennis Ritchie, co-creater of Unix and C, passed away on 12th October 2011.
Kinda feels like an era has passed, when the internet and the world wide web were two completely different things, most networks were run by universities, hacking was for fun not profit, you could tell if the dial up was working by the sound it makes, and mudding was text-based (I still had the awesome "talent" of dying straight within the first couple of hours even back then though! XD )
Anyhow, thank you, Mr Ritchie, for having made many many contributions to computing, even if they're so obscure that the average Joe would never know how their lives have been improved by it. Rest in peace, dmr.
