yurt!

The beach trip was fantastic! It was the weekend I had been dying to have for a while now, and it was everything I could have hoped for!

I drove with my sous chef and her wife out to a little camp in Tillamook (I can't remember the name for the life of me right now!), and the drive down was very lovely, and colorful. We listened to great hip hop, and enjoyed the Autumn leaves & trees & cows & wilderness all outside our windows. We arrived earlier than most people, and got settled into our yurt! Oh, how badly I want to live in a yurt! It had heat, bunkbeds, and a dome on top that looked into the night sky! I never knew camping could be so fun! We took a walk to the beach to check out the ocean, and the waves were amazing. Everyone forgot their boards, and it would have been fun to try out some surfing too. We walked a little ways out, and I got caught in wave, and couldn't run in my flip flops. My jeans only got a little wet, and the water was freezing!

More people arrived and we collected fire wood and found a pile of rocks with words written on them. It seemd like maybe it was a youth groupd project to write words on them, and scatter them around the beach. We promply threw the one that read "sadness" right into the ocean. No sadness for the beach trip! We kept "respect" closeby though. I helped some of the boys get firewood in what we deemed the "creepy, haunted" forest, and seriously, it looked as such. It was amazing though, and full of mossy trees and everything smelled fresh and salty. I love the ocean! We watched the sunset! We watched the clouds swallow the sun and it was the most amazing thing.

Next it was back to camp for dinner. By this time, almost everyone had arrived. We broke out the wine and say around in the meeting hall (it totally felt like sleep away camp!), and threw food on the bbq, and more people arrived, one brought a dog who was so sweet!, and we ate dinner. I sometimes forgot that we worked together. I feel so close to these people, that I forget that they are my co-workers. We broke out the black Sharpie and wrote "slut" names on our drinking cups, and mostly only called eachother by these names throughout the night. Imagine calling your boss "donkey dick" and not laughing.

Then it was down to the beach! We got bundled up and everyone helped create an amazing bonfire with all the wood we had collected or bought. By this time, it was so dark that walking to the beach was a challenge. It was scary and lovely, because we were actually able to see the stars (living in the city, I never see any!), and hearing the water, but not knowing how close it could get was creepy and fun. I wish I could write a more descriptive post about this, but I am just so sleepy.

We made a million smores, and my friend Lisa danced with fire. People arrived with a full keg and some blue tequila drink that lit up green when we put our glow sticks in them. Me and some of my girls from work had an impromptu dance party on the beach, and it only got better when someone brought a stereo. We danced in front of everyone, and it felt so freeing and wonderful. We tried to organinzed a naked run around the beach, but the wind kicked up, and smoke was everywhere. I drank with my bosses (who, fyi, aren't much older than me, so it didn't feel odd at all!), and as we danced more and the fire grew, we had to take off layers because how hot it was getting. We were the first group to go back to the yurts, and stumbling, and holding arms, we made it back safely. The water was getting so close, that it eventually ate the fire, and we were really far up on the beach too. Our old manager came to our yurt to inform us that raccoons had eaten our breakfast, and we thought that was so funny. A raccoon eating a whole dozen eggs! And butter! And since they couldn't open the sodas, they threw them out! Falling asleep in the same little hut as your coworkers is only great when you feel like family. And I have never felt closer to anyone I have worked with before. Just another reminder to myself just how lucky I am to work where I work. If I were to ever leave this place, I would be ever so sad!

Sleep was great, but our yurt was almost too warm. I was up at 7am, and walked around, and someone had brought Voo-Doo donuts for us all! We headed to town and ate breakfast at a pancake house, and then coffee from another place, and then it was time to leave. I slept on the way home, and now I am relaxing and about to go shower so McCall and I can go see a movie!

I want more beach trips! Renting a yurt is only $16 in the off season. Yurts are great! Everyone agreed to move out of their houses and apartments and get a yurt!
