So, something that has happened to me (or at least I've realized) is that I am under a curse. Yes, a curse that affects...ships. There is no other explanation for it. NO OTHER. I have the worst luck with couples. Horrible. Terrible. So I decided to list the evidence:
1. Sara/Greg (CSI) Oh this is when I came to LJ eight years ago. EIGHT YEARS AGO!!!! Course I've been absent for the last couple (how hilarious is it when I had a steady job I had more time for blogging). I have always been a shipper probably all my life but Sara Sidle and Greg Sanders on CSI took it all to a new level! While his crush appeared in S1, in S5 I was blown away with the WSS episode and after reading interview after interview from the actors and it was clear they were heading that way. EVEN TV GUIDE posted a pro article about them. And don't get me started on the wonderful FF out there, not least of which
slynn6776 is responsible for.
CURSE STRIKES-But low and behold, it falls to pieces very quickly in S6. Not only does GSR rear it's ugly (UGLY) head, but then the actors start to back away from their earlier interviews, insisting they have no idea why fans would have gotten such a notion of a Sandle relationship. It was the first act of devestation I would receive in a long battle.
2. Nick/Chelsea (Days) Oh dear. Shall I bring up Days of Our Lives? I have to. Getting caught up in ships on soap operas is very difficult because even on the veteran couples, they will be estranged from time to time, and invariably an interloper will appear. So I can't blame anyone but myself in regards to the arrival of the detestable Jett and then later the odious Daniel. (And IMO nothing is worse than the incestuous Max).
CURSE STRIKES-But what actually happens? Not only does he sleep with her mother (which is typically very unusual for a couple), but when they give into their desire and love for each other, OFFSCREEN, it is unenjoyable for her. Yes, they had BAD SEX. This is a soap opera. When does consensual sex ever appear bad? That's right. NEVER. They eventually recovered but not for many fans. Or me. God.
The above are just two specific examples. There are by far many more at lower levels. Even a "sure thing" in Ron/Hermione of Harry Potter irritated me with the ridiculous dance scene in Part one between Harry/Hermione. So obviously I'm scared to death for my newest obsession of Mary/Matthew of Downton Abbey.
