Since this is my LJ, I'm going out on a limb here and saying if it's true that he's dating (and I use that term loosely) people almost 25 years his junior, it squicks me a bit and I don't have a lot of respect for it. I'm completely aware that it's my own issue and hang-up, and I'm certain there are LOADS of mature, 17 year olds out there to call me on it, but 25 years of living should count for something. Call me what you will, but it's just so damn cliche' and it makes my inner purple wearing old woman scream "grow the hell up".

As for the age deal, they can hate both of us. I'll hop off the limb and say that I think a 20-year age gap, particularly when one of the persons involved is high-school age, is squicky. No matter how mature both parties are, there is still a significant power imbalance to the relationship. The imbalance increases when Person A is a well-known actor and Person B is a fan of Person A.
Once more with feeling, I don't know that James has done this. I hear he's a flirt, and that was probably what was happening during the incident mentioned in the review. I'm talking about the phenomenon in general.
