"Well, Watson, you have to admit our situation has improved. We're not tied up any more, we're free of that pitch-dark flooded cellar -"

"Holmes, old boy, now we're wading through a pitch-dark flooded tunnel, going towards an unknown destination. Are we really that much better off?"

"Don't be negative, old cock. Besides, we now have your sword cane and six-"

"Five."

"Fine. Five Vestas. Which gives us almost a minute and a half of light. Plenty to find our way out by."

"If the flooding doesn't get worse."

"Quite. But hark! I think I see something up ahead."

"It's a man. And he has a lantern!"

"Sword cane at the ready, old boy."

"Good Lord!"

"Watson, it's - it's you."

"Jam?"

TBC...

End Note: It occurs to me that some of you may need a word of explanation. I refer you to Kate Beeton's blog,"Hark, A Vagrant"; specifically, "The Case of the Two Watsons" in which regular Watson is replaced by Stupid Watson.
I also recently discovered an animated version here: on Vimeo
