public performance.

i played my original music in front of people for the first time ever on wednesday night at the starbucks open mic! i wasn't as nervous as when i played "clair de lune" back in october, which is weird because this was a far more nervewracking repetoire. but it probably helped that there weren't many people there. and about a minute into "jamie's song," i heard someone say, "wow, she's really good" to their friend which was obviously a huge ego boost (and an unexpected one at that!) i don't think my voice sounded as good as it could have, not only because i was nervous but because my throat was particularly dry, but overall i'd say it went amazingly well. it's not often i feel really good about a performance...i'm definitely not one of those people who thinks they nailed something just because they didn't miss any notes. in fact, i did miss quite a few notes in "my city drum" but it didn't matter because i think they ended up sounding jazzy instead of wrong. (fine line.) i want to play out again but i think i'm going to write some more songs before i do just so i don't play the same things every week, since that could get boring fast. maybe i'll even play at the burren!

i started learning thin lizzy's "the boys are back in town" the other night because it actually sounds really cool as a piano ballad, but holy moly, there are so many lyrics! i need to listen to the song a lot more so i can figure out how they go. i kind of only know the part that goes "the boys are back in tow-ow-ow-ow-ownnn, the boys are back in town..."

lsat is two weeks from monday. christ on a cracker.

work is going well. i'm pretty unproductive from about 11-12 and from 2-5 (so...most of the day) but money is money, so i'm happy to sit here and do nothing. in air conditioning. and a pretty dress.

speaking of which, i need to buy some shoes after work.

i'm craving dim sum.

work, music
