a new pet.
i ditched spring fling today and went to the museum of science with max to see an exhibit about lizards and snakes that i've been dying to see since i saw an ad for it in the t a few months ago. i didn't realize until the other day that it's leaving tomorrow, so i got my ass over there, shelled out the ridiculous admission and parking fees, and nerded out for a few hours.
boy, am i glad i went. despite all the sinister connotations, reptiles are such uniquely beautiful creatures and when i was walking around looking at all the aquariums today, i wanted one so badly.
so i got a leopard gecko! i named him stevie wonder.
no, i'm not technically allowed to have him in the dorm, but he's small and friendly and docile so i don't think keeping him a secret will be hard. he's curious and smart and interesting and adorable and he's the first pet i've had that i could touch (since all i've had are fish...except for a hermit crab in kindergarten that i was afraid to handle because i thought it was going to snap my fingers off. it only lived for a month, though. weaksauce.)
the only kind of gross thing about the gecko that is that he eats crickets, and as anyone who knows me knows, insects freak the hell out of me. but i fed him his first dozen today and didn't have any convulsions so i think i'll get used to them. or not. maybe i'll just feed stevie wonder meat scraps.

i think as the months go on, i'll add some fake foliage and make his aquarium look more like a jungle. for now, i just have a red rock climbing thing/hiding place, some moss, and a water dish. it looks a little bleak but you gotta start somewhere.
