Watched the first episode of the new season of The Wire last night.
The previous seasons have been terrific. As with the other excellent HBO series the writing and acting and time to develop characters and storylines have made them more interesting and aesthetically pleasing than most films, even many "arty" ones.
It will be interesting to see if David Simon and his co-writers can keep a story arc centered around a newspaper as compelling as the police/port/politics/drug dealers that have preceeded it.
One item: that bar where the now disbanded Special Crimes unit hangs out has a great jukebox. Last night it played both Jimmy Reed and Ernie K-Doe. Is there any working class bar (outside of New Orleans) that would have such a great selection? If there is, I want to hang out there.
