What a week. I ended up in the hospital Thursday after going home early from work on Wed night, well let me start from the begining.
I woke up on Wed morning with a fever but I went to work I noticed a small red patch on my leg it was sore, I though I had burned my self with my Mac. Since it was sitting in the same spot for a about 30 min. I went to work and took some dayquil I was OK. Until about 11am I started to feel my fever come back. By noon I was shivering in my cube shaking so bad I couldn't even type. I ended going home and going back to bed. I felt a little better I took more dayquil and headed to the show the band had to play. Honestly I would have canceled it but there was a band from KY coming in we had set them up with the show and told them we'd be there to be local support.
We played our set, but we had to cut a song out I was out of steam and feeling really bad. I ran out of the club and started barfing. I was burning up, Tracy came out and found me I told her to tell the band what was going on and they need to off load our equipment without me. They knew I was sick they didn't know how sick I was. They were surprised that I manged to play the show. They packed up my guitars and equipment loaded for me in to my car and I went home. I went to sleep and didn't wake up until about 4am with some chills. I found more nyqual and slept until about 9am. I tossed and turned and got up around 10am. We headed to Patients First and no one was there. The doctor I saw didn't seem to understand what I was trying to tell her. By now it was clear to me it was a staph infection. I showed her my leg and she said you need to go to the hospital we can't do much for you.
So we stopped for quick bite to eat. Then we went to the ER at St. Mary's. I was seen right away, and they got all the info they needed drew some blood and started me on the first round of IV antibiotics. The ER doctor told me they had decided to admit me. So I ended up heading to rm 201A in the north wing for the night.
I wasn't tired and I couldn't get comfortable in the bed. I normally sleep on my stomach, not on my back. I watched six episodes of The Wire on DVD. I had Tracy bring both the fourth and fifth season with my laptop and a book I had been reading.
Around 3am I tried to get some sleep. I did finally fall asleep only to be woken up at 6:30am to have blood drawn. The nurse sucked at sticking people missed the vain in my hand. The best vain I have had the IV in it, and I don't think they could have hit it a third time less in 24 hours. She headed for my left hand. I told her she could NOT touch my left hand. I play in a band I have a show this weekend and I need my hand not to be injured to play. I can deal with my right hand being a little banged up but not the left. She got some blood from my hand and it was enough for the lab to do its tests.
The NP came in around 7am to talk to me and look at my leg. She told me the doctor would be in a bit and they would make a decision about keeping me another day or letting me go home. I told them if it was possible I really needed to leave. I had to turn over things at work and I had a show this weekend to play.
The doctor came in looked at the leg and explained he said he wasn't sure if it was staph or the evil mersa. Since I already had two rounds of IV antibiotics and my progress looked good, he'd cut me loose with oral antibiotics with the understanding that I follow up with a doctor in 7 days and if my leg started getting worse I had to come back and be re-admitted.
I was sprung by 10:30am!
The leg is looking better ever hour.
