What it must be like to live in glass...
You know, college really isn't all that different from high school. But, surprisingly, there is one huge difference: your family. They change, and you change towards them.
It's parent weekend down here at GSU at my family came down today. They even brought me a gift, a beta fish name Chicken. My mom picked the name and I must say that I just can't think of a better one! ^.^ He's pretty, silvery-pink with purple fins. Oh, and black gills that flutter when's happy. He's adorable and I love him (not to mention now I have a pet so I feel like I have someone to rant to again without feeling guitly.) I put him on a box so as to muffle some of the sounds in my room and surrounded him with different colors. He gets all fluttery at the color red, so I played around a little and left him with a Red Dragon and pretty black/red/white bag next to his vase with a picture behind it of my parents at a baseball game. He seems to enjoy the variety.
We went out to eat at a bar called Gnat Landing, where once again my family was amused at the faces I make when John has me try a beer. We talked about drinking and stuff, which was pretty amusing since they just don't care if I drink so long as I don't fuck myself up. It was fun. After they wanted to see where I hang out, which is mostly Galactic Comics, so John went to see it. Surprisingly, it was still open. I forget the hours so I figured it would have closed at 7 like during the week but it stays open until 10 on Fridays apparently. We went in and my DP comic had come in, and John bought it for me along with a new comic they had called Confessions of a Blabbermouth. I'm reading the latter of the two first since I'd never heard of it. It's teenage angst to the core set in London about family and school and bullies and, of course, how her only real outlet is blogging about it all. I'm not done yet because it kind of hits close to home with how I've felt at time so I needed a break for a minute. If any of you are interested, let me know. It was ten bucks, and well worth it I assure you. Oh, and I got the books at a discount since it was "First Friday" meaning that if I had my student ID, I get 15% off! Nice time for me to have my wallet on me even though I knew I had no cash. After that we headed down to where all the bands and other festitivities for First Friday were. There was a little museum holding a dessert thing and we wandered around it. I met an awesome artist there and we talked for a while about techniques and how we got into things and how we're both kind of writing our own books while using pictures to express ourselves too. It was nice and he'll be teaching soon so I think I'll take one of his classes.
So yeah...it's wierd. My mind has been all kinds of fucked up lately but after spending some time with my parents, checking out a cute little museum, getting some new comics as well as a cuddly little fishy (oh shut up, I know you can't cuddle fish) I feel right...somehow. Go figure, it just takes stepping into an old character to revive the "new" me.
