Was God on his side?

Is he damned?
Did he do what was necessary?
If he did what was needed... how could he be damned for it?
It seems he was the only man who could have done it... yet, he is derided and punished for it.
Does he deserve it?
Pontius Pilate
He tried to save Joshua from death.
He was convinced he was innocent.
He washed his hands of the death and the crown willingly accepted the responsibility.
Yet... we still blame Pilate.
Doe he deserve the blame?
