So there.
"Your room or mine?"
"Mine. I'm not sleeping in your bed. ...lowly bassist."
"That ain't what you said at the bar."
"I didn't say anything! You take that back!"
"No!"
What followed next was the most pathetic fight Kamina had ever been a part in. Later, he was grateful that he'd been too drunk the previous night to remember most of it. All in all, Sheryl hit him on the chest until he swept her off her feet, attempted to carry her to his hotel room down the hall from hers, and was promptly turned around by tug on his ear from the drunk woman in his arms. "Wrong direction!"
"Leggoooooooooo, I'm goin' where you want me to!" he howled.
"I'm making sure you st...," she lapsed into silence and scrunched up her nose in thought, "oh! Stay! Stay on the right track!" Kamina grumbled something incoherent as he swayed in front of the door and watched Sheryl fish through her purse for the key card. They were in severe danger of tumbling over on the spot if she didn't hurry. Not that he'd ever admit to being completely drunk off his ass or enjoying a moment with his boss where they weren't sniping and yelling at each other. The fact that he got to watch her boobs jiggle as he carried her was just a plus. One celebratory noise and a fumbling for the door later, they tottered inside the large suite and towards the bedroom. He could admire the surroundings even totally drunk. His room was okay since he was in the band, but well...she was the pop star that sold out multiple arenas throughout the whole galaxy as soon as her tour dates were released. Boyfriends would fight each other at the box office after camping outside of the arena for days to get a pair of nosebleed tickets. It was obvious with every step further inside. Who knew you could fit a full size Jacuzzi in a hotel? And who knew you could have a room so big for said Jacuzzi in a hotel? He half-listened to Sheryl's insistence that he put her down gently on her bed and now that he was here...he felt like that newly arrived, overwhelmed sixteen year old kid from the sticks standing outside of spacechip port of Macross Galaxy all over again.
"What, you're just going to stand there after all your big talk?" she teased, crossing her arms and smirking at him.
"Oi, oi," Kamina said weakly, "I said I could get ya back to your room without passing out. You never said I was s'posed to do somethin' after that. 'm headin' back so I can get some sleep before practice tomorrow morning. You work us hard." His grin didn't reach his eyes.
That must have been enough to tip off the Galatic Fairy. She stood nose-to-nose with the much taller man (five inch heels were a wonder) and furrowed her brow. "Something's wrong. Don't tell me it isn't either because I know."
"...thinkin'. We been friends for a while, ain't we?"
"Ever since you joined my band when I first started and stopped being so stubborn," she answered.
"You mean since you stopped bein' stubborn."
"No, you! You wouldn't stop fighting me over what the music was meant to sound like and changed so much of it that I didn't know until we started recording!"
"That's 'cause it didn't sound right! I fixed it!"
Kamina stared down Sheryl.
Sheryl stareed down Kamina.
And then they both started laughing.
Sheryl managed to choke out past her giggles, "We're never going to get to the bottom of who was right on that." He was half-way through agreeing when she kissed him. Not that friend kind of kiss either. A real kiss. It was only after he got over the shock and started to respond when he felt her pull away and uncermoniously shove him out the room. He was tangled up with a coffee table, upside-down, and confused when her blushing face appeared in her doorway. "Good night...lowly bassist." The door shut with a quiet click.
He lay there for a second or two then got up and left, all with a huge grin on his face. He had no idea what that was about. He'd find out later. All Kamina was sure of was that he could definitely hold the fact that she wanted him over her head for as long as he wanted to.
Awesome.
