This has been a great weekend so far, especially last night. After more than a year of back and forth commenting and chatting,
snowdaysroq and I finally met up in person, which we've been trying to do forever. We had SO much fun. We met up at Alero's and had margaritas and nachos and then had awesome cold stone ice cream. It was just so much fun to finally get to talk in person...I knew we'd get along super well, and we never ran out of anything to talk about! I am hoping that New Year's weekend I can get
snowdaysroq and the wonderful Miss Yahzee out to meet Sonic. I know they would have a great time...so many other Shepherds for Yahzee to play with, and Sonic will love them both. :) Also going to try to make it to UMD's commencement on Thursday, hooray!
Other stuff...let's see...talked to Matt late last night, his horse has to have surgery next week in New York. :( Poor Hugo. So we're canceling our lessons. I am SO bummed, but I will find a way to see him before he leaves, he comes back on Friday. Maybe I can go see him in Berryville early Friday morning. I feel so bad for him...here he is running all over trying to get ready to leave for Florida for 4 months, and now Hugo is sick.
I DID have a lovely ride on Sonic yesterday, though...he was collected and happy and just listening SO well. We are still having a host of issues going to the right, but we'll get there. My right leg is not as strong, and he is not as balanced to the right. I think I will longe him in sidereins cantering to the right today, that will help. I have to do some no stirrup work too, ugh.
In other horsey news (I rarely have any other news, huh), I found a new farm. I think it will be a good place for us to go, at least until Matt comes back in April, and then we'll decide what to do. It is a lovely little farm, about 20 stalls, BIG indoor ring, a regulation-dressage sized outdoor with bluestone (I hate bluestone, but at least she's kept it up and there's a lot of footing there), adorable stalls, everything. I think Sonic will be happier there, and so will I. Sandy, the owner, is also a dressage and eventing trainer, and I think her students are really mostly lower level, that will be fine for us...Sonic and I are absolutely lower level right now. She doesn't allow outside trainers on the property, but until Matt gets back, I don't have a trainer, so...we will figure it out. Maybe I can send him to Matt once a month or osmething...I don't know. For now this will do, at this point in Sonic's young career, getting a stall at a barn with an indoor was the most important thing, and we'll get to the rest later.
So good weekend! Today I have pancakes with Chet and then have to finish some shopping and wrapping, etc. and ride Sonic-boy. :)
