Lumi here...yeah, I couldn't resist, I had to app this one! Let me introduce Rubette La Lette from the woefully obscure series Gokudo no Manyuki. What can I say about this series? It's a cross between Slayers and Journey to the West. There's gender-bending, soul switching, god bashing, evil witches, princesses, magic, man eating plants, doll houses

Ah yes, Gokudo was a diamond in the rough. It was short and low budget, but the one thing that made it so awesome, apart from the fact that it was pretty fearless, was being able to follow the bad-guy's story.
Glad I'm not the only one who has ever heard of it, it would be sad times.

Fearless is another well chosen term; deconstruction/hearty mockery of Western religions is quite common, but I think Gokudo-kun is the only series I've ever seen make potshots at major Eastern religious tenants. And does it with fart jokes and pregnant men.
I showed it to a few people once. Very hit or miss. The only consensus that could be reached was that the OP was terribly deceptive; it looks like a typical sword and sorcery series and perhaps more deceptively still, it looks as if the members of the cast generally like each other.
Maybe some people on here will be inspired to watch by Sweet Rubette!

Oh yeah it makes fun of a few Eastern religions and myths, Buddhism is the big one and Journey to the West, the goddess Amaterasu. Gokudo runs the gamete, poking fun at everything including itself. I actually liked the 16-bit action RPG fight scenes with Rubette and then the bunny girl would pop up and apologize for the budget cuts.
I discovered the series through the Animerica magazine, I don't know if it's still in circulation these days. But I took a shot and my friends and I generally enjoyed the series. That OP was really deceptive, in a surprising kind of way.
Lol maybe, you never know...who could resist a show with a pregnant male panda.
