Possible Event/Virus Planning Post - Fortune Virus
Since playing Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon, I've been hatching a personal plot for Naoto. A simple missing person's case recommended by a rival detective plunges the Detective Prince into the world of the supernatural once again... a world of demons, Devil Summoners, and mystical assassins that employ monstrous insects as tools of their trade. But this time, Naoto won't have her family's good fortune to help her. How can she hope to solve this case when luck is working against her?
So, I thought to myself, “What if I could somehow turn this personal plot into a comm wide event?” If enough people show interest in this plot, I'll get Mod permission and set a date for the event (most likely sometime in August, if there aren't any conflicting plots/viruses set for then). The length of time the event would last would be around four or five days, probably.
I now present to you, for your consideration, what I like to call the “Fortune Virus.” You may have already heard me Plurking about it, but here are the main points that the plot will entail. I'll post a comprehensive FAQ should the plot be approved.
In the world of Devil Summoner 2 there are creatures known as luck locusts which can devour a person's fortune. Those who have had their fortune devoured progressively succumb to worsening levels of bad luck, until finally the victim dies in a tragic accident. This is why the 8th Fukoshi Clan of assassins loves these little guys: they can attack their victim and kill them in such a way that no one can ever trace the crime back to the clan.
Conversely, if someone manages to capture a luck locust after it has glutted itself on someone's fortune, then that person will be blessed with good fortune. But don't think that good fortune comes without a price! These little buggers want to take their supply of good fortune back to the nest for storage, and will do everything in their power to escape from their owner. And if they can't do it on their own... then they'll summon up a giant monster locust to kill their owner and release the little guy so it can return to the nest.
What this means for the community is that while Naoto is investigating the sudden loss of her fortune, the luck locusts will somehow be spread among the community. Some people will have their fortune devoured, while other people will find a luck locust in their possession. For Naoto and a handful of people aiding in her investigation, it's a race against time to learn of the horrifying origins of the luck locusts and to discover a way to restore the victims' stolen fortune, before it's too late...
So, the basic gist of the Fortune Virus is this: if you're cursed with bad luck, bad things inexplicably happen to you for no apparent reason. If you're blessed with good fortune, then good things inexplicably happen to you for no apparent reason. Is it possible to lead a fulfilling life when one's existence is basically the result of forces beyond one's control? Or will you choose to fight against Fate and make your own luck? That is for you to decide...
