Lexi, Search & Rescue Dog?

Mar 19, 2007 12:44

In my continuing quest to find something for Lexi to be passionate about, other than the couch, we attended our first "Air Scenting" class at the Lee Mannix Center for Canine Behavior yesterday.  I wasn't really sure what the class was going to be like, but I knew that Lexi is good at sniffing out the kongs I hide for her in the house.  It turns ( Read more... )

That's awesome! Clyde won't recall reliably either. It depends on if there is something more interesting capturing his attention ...like mulch hehe, if he finds dog poo, forget about it. I'd need a stack of hams to get him to come. Luckily, most search and rescue dogs I have seen stay on lead (at least the hound dogs I have seen). I can't wait to hear more about this class. Sounds like something Clyde the wonder Basset Hound would love.

Perhaps the Search and Rescue Team has some sort of .. Mulch Patrol division? Perhaps Lexi could START such a division?

Mulch gets lost sometimes! Won't somebody think of the mulch?!

I hope you and Lexi have found a good togetherness activity. Or if this isn't it, I hope you can find one that is!

This sounds like a great class, Pam! (I love reading about your dog exploits.) I've been looking for something like this for Freya. Is it open to anyone? If it is, I wouldn't mind trying it with her. When and where is it?

Freya would carry on like an idiot if she was tied to a tree, and her recall is 100% accurate and awesome if there isn't a cat, a squirrel, a mouse or other rodent, or cat-sized and smaller dog she could be chasing in between where I am and she is. *sigh*

She does, however, want to be with me like glue.

I like that picture of you and Freya! The class is at the Lee Mannix Center for Canine Behavior which is south - near the Y at Oak Hill. They cater to dogs that are problem children - dog or people aggressive, although not all the dogs have issues. You should call them up and talk to them about Freya. 371-DOGS. This class is new so it's not even on their website. It's a 6 week class on Sunday afternoons at 3:30. That's part of why I signed up - it's a good time - doesn't conflict with morning workouts and if I go out of town I could be back in time.

Uh, I lost a shredded chicken. Do you know of anyone who can help me rescue it?
