Cycling

I've been building my cycling time over the last several weeks, in preparation for our cycling vacation.
I log my activity regularly as part of a fitness program at work.  Light blue is cycling.  Red is dog walking.  The number in each block is points, each point is 10 minutes.  Note the lack of any other significant activity.  So much for tri season this year.

Saturday we rode Dripping Springs to Johnson City and back.  I had only attempted this ride once before, when training for the MS 150 a few years ago.  That day we had to turn back at Pedernales Falls State Park and race thunderstorms back to the cars.  Saturday we made the whole journey.  We had a pretty strong cross/head wind most of the way back, which we failed to appreciate when it was a tailwind.   Read the following chart from the bottom up:

First segment 6:42am - to Johnson City, then back a little ways, until the first geocache I stopped to get.  Slow speed included two stops.
Second segment - 9:13am - back to 290.  Strong headwind.  Big hills.  No stops.  Ouch.
Third segment - 10:25am - back to the cars.  Ready to be done.  We picked up the pace!

It was fun to ride with
shubbe - as her training tapers down and ours peaks, we meet.  Of course she went out for another 80 minutes of cycling after we were done.  She rocks.  We also rode with Coach Gina and Coach Cindy from Trizones, and a couple of others from the south team who turned around at P. Falls park.

It was an exhausting ride, and the roads were so rough at times that my fillings were rattling!  But it was a ride that we needed if we are to have any chance of not embarrassing ourselves trying to climb Mackenzie Pass.
