Last week's workouts

It was a light workout week.  Last Sunday night I rode my bike - 4 neighborhood loops.  I rode my bike once on Thursday morning - 3 neighborhood loops.  That's it for the work week.  I was on the edge of a cold and I decided to let my body rest and it must have worked.  I never got that cold.  On Saturday I ran 10 miles super early (starting at 6am) with Julie & Sarah - Shoal Creek out and back starting from Randalls on 35th St.  I consider this the first real long run of the season.  I had previously run 8, but that was 4 weeks ago, so 10 hurt.  Last year's pain in the joint of my left foot came back after only 4 miles.  So I now have an appointment to get orthotics that I've put off since last running season.

Edit: I remembered some other stuff about this run I'd like to remember.  Nutrition!  I had 16 oz of Gatorade Endurance, 16 oz of water, and 3 shot blocks at the half way point.  That seemed fine for the run.  When I got home I had 12 oz of Endurox, took an ice bath, and took the dogs for a 25 minute walk.  15 minutes into the walk, I bonked.  I broke out in a cold sweat.  I was shaking like a leaf and huffing and puffing for breath.  I didn't think I would ever make it home.  It was the longest 10 minute walk in my life.  I haven't had a blood sugar attack like that in a long time.  I guess it was enough calories to get me through the run, but not enough to go on with my day.  I got home and inhaled a builders bar and then proceeded to snack my way throughout the rest of the day.

Oh and we ran really slow.  As in averaging 11 mile pace.  I'm ok with that, if I did it on purpose.  But I didin't.  It felt a lot harder than an 11 mile pace should feel.  And there were about 150 runners out there too.  I think Rogue, Gazelle's, and Austin Fit were all out there running around the Shoal Creek area.  Many of them running on the wrong side of the street - running with traffic in the darkness.  What's up with that?  And running an out and back where the out is in the dark and the back is in the light is like two different runs!  You see totally different stuff.

After I got cleaned up we went to Houston for not quite 24 hours to celebrate my brother's 40th birthday.  I gave him a Wii.  After he opened the gift and gushed over it he took a piece of paper out of his pocket on which he had written "video game console".  That stinker.  He knows how my brain works.  He's guessed my gifts before with no hints.  He says it's a sibling thing.  Anyway, that Wii was so much fun!  Now I want one for me.
