I think the last time I saw the nationalism and overall unification in this country this high was on September 11, 2001. The big difference is the fact that this isn't the result of something negative but something positive. It's a really good feeling, honestly.

My one thing I have to say to everyone who is worried (or feels certain) that Obama's going to fuck everything up for everyone is this: go to BBC News and read all the remarks from the many world leaders in the various articles on the site. Maybe I'm being naive, but one of the main reasons I voted for the guy is that he represents a new and hopefully improved face for the currently tained image of the U.S. To many he represents an opportunity for change and progress, and I mean this on a world scale; the progress of human society is just that much more important to me than petty issues liike taxes.

In a nutshell, I'm saying we as a country have a chance to fix all the shit that we broke over the last 8 years on a global scale, to change the rest of the world's opinion of the U.S. from that of an unfavorable one to at least something more accepting. I'm also not saying that Obama is going to be anywhere near the best president ever or that I'll agree with all (or most, even) of his policies. However, the opportunity exists now to prevent the rest of the world from getting to the point where they outright hate the U.S. I really doubt that most people in this country will want that. "Peace" may not be possible, but at least there's tolerance.
