INTERESTED IN YOUR OPINION

Many of you know my new job came with a commute that varies from 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the time of day. I am currently driving a Ford Explorer - a somewhat older one (1996), but it drives great and has actually been the best money hubby and I have ever spent on a vehicle. We haven't spent a dime on it for anything other than routine maintenance except to replace the power window control a couple years ago. But as of last week, it was costing me about $15 a day to go to work. That adds up quickly.

With the rapidly rising cost of gas, hubby has been suggesting we consider getting me something newer/better on gas (my Explorer gets about 18.2 mpg on the commute), and leaving the Explorer for him to use for work since it's better on gas than his dually.

Trouble is, I don't think I want a car, even though I've seen several I like from an appearance standpoint. After driving an SUV for so many years, when I ride in a car, I feel like my bum is dragging the pavement and I don't feel like I can see as well in heavy traffic.

Do any of you have any experience with any of the newer model SUV's that are better on gas than my Explorer? Likes? Dislikes? Suggestions?
