I decided last week that I wanted a new bustle for the Easter Picnic. I know, I'm somewhat crazy. But. I look at it this way. It was rainy all week, and it's unseasonably warm still. Realistically, I don't have a cool bustle dress that doesn't have a train on it. My sheer (lovely and cool), has a train. My linen, has a train... The rest either don't fit at the moment, or are made out of substances that just will not breathe.
So I found some coordinating cottons in my stash and set to work. The fabric was originally going to be made into a vintage dress, but I decided to change my mind.. :D
I got to the point last night at 10pm when I put the dress on the mannequin and I didn't like how it was looking. At that point I figured that I would find something completely different to wear, since I didn't want to be exhausted at the picnic, and went to bed. I had basically picked out my blue sheer, thinking that I would wear my train bustled up.
I crashed, but woke up wide awake at 3.30am, thinking I knew exactly why I wasn't liking it and how I could finish it better. I am still not completely happy with it, I have to admit, the bodice is far too big (odd since I use this pattern ALL the time), I need to tack the pleats in the bodice down, and I feel like I need to drop the hem of the skirt down an inch.. I also need to go back and do a better job of the handsewing, put on skirt closures, bone the bodice and do a better job of the belt buckle. But I've posted all of this without even showing a pic of what I did....
