I'm a little worried about my dog.

She thinks the Roomba is a mouse.

Seriously.

At least, that's the best we can come up with. See, I live on a farm. Field mice are part of our life. We should buy stock in mouse traps. It's oogy, but what can you do? Farm! And now that the weather's getting colder, more mice are coming into the house. Cookie is a Yorkie, so of course she goes all nuts whenever she sees/smells one. Both of our dogs do. It's usually kind of cute.

So we have a Roomba. I highly suggest getting a Roomba, because really, who likes pushing a vacuum around? I come home and my mom's all lounging on the couch, got her feet up, watching TV and I go, "Hey, Mom, what're you doing?" And she goes "Vacuuming," and sure enough, there goes the Roomba, right in front of my feet. Good times.

But I digress.

We have a Roomba. We keep this Roomba in a corner of the family room near the fireplace. And for the past couple of days, Cookie has been going nuts at the Roomba, sniffing it and digging at it and trying to get underneath. We figured there was a mouse in the fireplace and that's why she was going crazy. No big deal. Then yesterday I really thought she was going to go insane trying to get at this thing, so I flipped the Roomba over and showed it to her, thinking that if she got to sniff it enough, she'd get over this weird obsession. So she sniffs and she barks and she bites.

And she pulls out a dead mouse.

Cue freakout! Ewwww, dead mouse, dead mouse! Dead shriveled up mouse, too. Lord only knows how long it had been in there. But I thought that would have been the end of it. I mean, you'd think, right? She found the mouse, end of story.

Nope.

She starts laying in front of the thing, staring at it and occasionally barking. My mom washed it all out and everything, but still the dog persisted in watching the Roomba. Obsessively. I moved it to another corner, thinking maybe there was still something in that corner that she was trying to get. Cookie followed the Roomba. The best we could come up with was that she thinks it's a mouse, because it moves and it makes noise, and it smells like mouse.

Well, today I come home from work and my mom's all worried, because apparently the only thing my dog did all day was stare at the Roomba. Didn't drink any water, didn't want dog treats, didn't go sit in the neighbor's lap like she usually does. Just laid in front of the Roomba, staring it. All day. We're talking, like, ten hours. I don't know what the hell that's about. I've since moved the Roomba to another room and closed the door, and it looks like she's forgotten about whatever it was about the vacuum that she'd been obsessing over. But how weird is that? I know terriers are predisposed to get obsessed with things like this, but I've never actually experienced it before.

I'm quite sure my dog is crazy. You know what they say about pets resembling their owners...
