So I was lucky enough to get a download of the BSG season 2 soundtrack. I know, another Galactica post? Get over it. I was going to offer my commentary on all the tracks, but I've been writing this post since about 9 PM, my computer has already crashed once, and I just don't feel like writing anymore. So I'll just comment on some. But I managed to figure out which scenes most of the tracks are from, so you get that.
Just to warn you, I have a migraine. And even when the meds make the pain go away, my brain still keeps on functioning a little on the silly, loopy side. Tomorrow morning, I will probably look back and go "what the hell is this?"
Battlestar Galactica Soundtrack: Season 2
1. Colonial Anthem, Final Cut
Adama and Co watch D'Anna's story on Galactica. Everyone say hello to the original BSG theme! "Fleeing the Cylons, a rag-tag fugitive fleet..." Crap, that's all I remember. Oh well.
2. Baltar's Dream, Valley of Darkness
BSG loves to kill babies, and Baltar goes batshit insane in his dreams. Is this the shape of things to come? I think so. This has always been one of my favorite pieces. I watch the baby-drowning scene just for this music.
3. Escape From the Farm, The Farm
Kara escapes from the Cylon farm. Her reproductive organs, however, do not.
4. A Promise To Return, The Farm
Kara says goodbye to Anders. 99% of fandom hopes he'll die on Caprica like she predicts. Sorry, guys. But it's a pretty piece of music. Very BSG.
5. Allegro, Home Part 1
Our intrepid heroes imitate the US Postal Service. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor hail will keep them from the Tomb of Athena. Parts of it are shades of "Passacaglia," which is awesome.
6. Martial Law, Fragged
Colonel Tigh is sooooo pussywhipped! Because martial law was such a good idea. Smooth move, ExLax.
7. Standing In the Mud, Black Market
Lee goes to see Phelan? I don't know, I try to pretend this episode never existed.
8. Pegasus, Pegasus
Galactica, meet Pegasus. Admiral Cain's a bit psycho, but that doesn't mean you two can't play nice. We'll even give you 80's porn music. By itself, though, it's a gorgeous piece of music. If you can get past the porniness.
9. Lords of Kobol, Pegasus
Adama gives Cain the seekrit battlestar commander handshake, Cain meets her new boss, and Kara looks hot in her service blues. Ooh, did I just say that out loud? And there is much rejoicing, because unlike the rest of us, they have no clue what's about to happen to them.
10. Something Dark Is Coming, Lay Down Your Burdens Part 1
The teaser that trumped KLG1 for Best. Teaser. Ever. Baltar contemplates losing the election, Roslin giggles and acts cute with Adama, and Kara puts on her best Responsible Face and totally doesn't tell anyone that they're risking their necks to save her Camp Caprica boyfriend (tm
wisteria_). This one's been on repeat for hours. I loved it when I first saw LDYB, I love it now. Remember how you felt watching that teaser, like there was just this trepidation about it, and anticipation because you could just tell that something absolutely horrible was coming, and it was coming fast, so when Sharon voiced that it was no big shocker to you? And the intensity of the teaser just about killed you, and when the main credits came on you got up for a stiff drink, because it was all just too much to handle? Okay, maybe that was just me. But that's what listening to this piece is like. That nervous excitement just all comes back. Bear McCreary is a frakking genius!
11. Scar, Scar
Final throwdown with Scar. Kat cuts a bitch. Personally, I was hoping for the almost-pilotsex music, and maybe the Deer Hunter Kara/Helo Theme of BFF-ness, but oh well.
12. Epiphanies, Epiphanies
I really didn't pay much attention to Epiphanies. Cylon baby blood hexagrams whatever. And I don't have it on my computer, so I don't know which scene this is from. Forgive me.
13. Roslin and Adama, Resurrection Ship Part 2
Kara and Lee talk about aborted assassination attempt, Helo reunites with Sharon, Adama is promoted. I just can't make fun of this one. It's too gorgeous, and there is kissing. The first time I heard this track, it was so beautiful it hurt. Like, physically hurt. And that was when Bear previewed it on that podcast. You'll be happy to know that the "official" cut is about thirty seconds longer. Yay for more pretty. There aren't enough good things to say about this track.
14. Gina Escapes, Resurrection Ship Part 2
Ah, Admiral Cain. We hardly knew ye. I might have been the only one sad to see her go, but that's because of my massive girlcrush on Michelle Forbes. More porny music, thought not as bad as 'Pegasus." But good.
15. Dark Unions, Lay Down Your Burdens Part 2
Well, my copy of LDYB2 is fubared, so I never did figure out which scene this is from. But my guess is the scene when Laura confronts Gaius about the election and about Six? The music here is so subdued that it could be from any scene.
16. The Cylon Prisoner, Pegasus
Gaius and Six discover that the Cylon prisoner aboard Pegasus is a Six copy. Not much else to say. Mediocre scene, mediocre music.
17. Prelude to War, Resurrection Ship Parts 1 and 2
Flippy ships and poundy drums. It's intense, man. Kat yells a lot and plays Viper Chicken with some pilot named Nacho. Kara is a friendly. We are all friendlies. Lee almost commits suicide, and doesn't leave a note. How rude. Resurrection ship go boom. And there are POUNDY DRUMS and quite possibly the most awesome string motif to ever awesome. POUNDY DRUMS!!!
18. Reuniting the Fleet, Home Parts 1 and 2
Adama puts the band back together. AKA The Adama Family Theme Song. It's nice, the reunion is sweet up until Sharon crashes the party, but honestly? I'm getting a little tired of the Touching Irish Flute Theme.
19. Roslin Confesses, Lay Down Your Burdens Part 2
This is the scene where all of fandom started jumping around, throwing things and yelling at Roslin. Everything after this? Totally her fault. Thanks, Laura. Thanks bunches. But it's worth a listen, despite all that. A bit of "Roslin and Adama" shows up here, too. Very pretty.
20. One Year Later, Lay Down Your Burdens Part 2
The "what the frak?" heard 'round the world. Also, Gaius has nice hair. This piece of music is morbid and creepifying, much like that close-up on Gaius' scalp. Gives me chills. The music, not the hair.
21. Worthy of Survival, Lay Down Your Burdens Part 2
Cylons occupy New Caprica. Is it October yet?
22. Main Title
Duh.
23. Black Market, Black Market
It's like BSG on speed. Bear channeling Dream Theater. I don't even know what part of the episode this is from. And I honestly don't care. This is a really messy piece of music. Much like the episode. Coincidence?
