The third fic in my Fade series. Fade is about the things we don't see. What happens when the camera fades out? A missing moments/backstory exploration series.

Fade: Back to Good

Lee had volunteered to take the first shift. Starbuck had, too. They sat back to back, guns in their laps, eyes on the horizon. It was beginning to seem like old times. Starbuck and Apollo. Partners in crime. But that had been before everything; before Kobol and Caprica, before the attacks and the Cylons, before Zak, even.

"I spy with my little eye, something that begins with T."

Kara thought for a moment. "Well, not toaster, obviously. Unless you mean Sharon." She snickered. "Okay, that was bad. Um...tree?"

"Right in one," Lee said, grinning.

She laughed. "Pathetic, Lee. Too easy." She leaned back into him with a playful shove. "I spy with my little eye something that begins with A."

It was his turn to laugh. "Adama."

"No."

"Asshole."

"Zarek starts with Z, Apollo."

He elbowed her. "Ah! Apollo!"

"I can't actually see you, moron." She elbowed him back.

"Ow, Kara." He chuckled and shifted his weight against her. "Fine. Arrow."

"Right." She shifted back, he was comfortable, even as tired as they both were. "I'm still better at this."

Lee sighed in mock exasperation. "You just keep telling yourself that, Kara..."
